Dominic Branford

As of December 2019 I am a Research Associate at Heriot-Watt university.

I am a Research Assistant/PhD student working in quantum information theory under the supervision of Dr Animesh Datta. I completed an undergraduate masters in physics at the University of Oxford in 2015. For my masters project, supervised by Dr Dylan Saunders, I looked at a theoretical scheme for detecting a qubit encoded in a single photon wih a non-deterministic quantum non-demolition mesurement. I also worked with Dr Oscar Dahlsten, looking at the roles energy can play in generalised probabilistic theories.

My general interests lie in the theory of quantum information and quantum optics. So far my PhD has been focused on looking at parameter estimation, looking at how quantum mechanics can be utilised to obtain high precision with finite resources with interest in limits to single and multi-parameter estimation, how the performance of estimation schemes can be bounded both at the fundamental level and in practical regimes, and the implications of these limits to experimental physics.
