Me

I originally come from the town of Port Talbot where I attended Glan Afan Comprehensive School. From 1979-1983, I studied mathematics at the University of Cambridge. In 1983, I moved to University of Warwick to study for a PhD under the supervision of David Epstein. I then moved through a series of postdoctoral positions at the Institute for Advanced Study Princeton, back to the University of Warwick, then to Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques at Bures-sur-Yvette, the University of Melbourne, and the University of Aberdeen. My first permanent positition was at the University of Southampton, where I was based from 1992 until 2007. On 1st July 2007, I moved back to the University of Warwick. I retired from my position there on 3rd October 2022, and now have ``emeritus'' status.

During my time in Southampton and Warwick, I have been the guest of various other institutions: including the Universities of Zürich, Auckland, Melbourne, Lille, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Bonn, Dijon, Grenoble and Orsay, the Tokyo Institute of Technology, the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica in Barcelona, the Max-Planck Institut and the Hausdorff Institute in Bonn, the Centre Bernoulli in Lausanne, the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule in Zürich, the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut in Oberwolfach, the Newton Institute in Cambridge, and the Fields Institute in Toronto.

Altogether, my travels have taken me to a number of different places.
