From Naomi Eilan:

As requested, here are some websites for Israeli organisations who have been active in working against the occupation. Most of them list ways in which support of some kind can be given. Perhaps next time we meet, if people are interested, we can talk about whether there is anything we want to/can do , as a group.

One idea that has come up in discussion is trying to organise something in Warwick University that would give a selection of these organisations a platform--say in the form an extended colloquium. Perhaps we could talk about that next time too, if people are interested.

In order of appearance they are: Ta'ayush -- a joint Jewish/Palestinian organisation that does first rate, 'ground-level' work : B'teselem and Yesh Din--both of these do mainly monitoring and reporting of human rights abuses; Seruv--the refusnik group. I have also added the website of the Israeli academics who support seruv; there is also a wordwide one which you will find on the seruv page.

From Gillian Hundt:

I would add to Naomi's list New profile, the movement for the Civil-ization of Israeli society (Editor adds: please notice the hyphen!) This supports young refuseniks. See an article about them mentioning New Profile.

In general the english version of Haaretz is an excellent source of information. It is the paper closest to the Guardian in the Israeli press.

As some of you know, I have lived in Beersheva Israel from 1972-83 and 1988-991, carried out research in both the Negev and in Gaza from 1994-2000 with the Minis try of Health and UNRWA, staying in Jebaliya camp and Gaza City.I currently have a research study going on in its fourth year in Jordan and Lebanon on improving Bedouin health care.

I have been speaking frequently to friends in Gaza who are very pleased that peo ple are mobilizing to help them in a multitude of ways locally and globally.
