In a joint experimental/theoretical collaboration with Liz Wellington (Biosciences), I am analysing an amoeba-bacteria ecology. The aims are to establish the form of the interaction (eg predator-prey, extent of saprophytic growth and parasitism) and model the ecosystem from a knowledge of the individual interactions. Thus we aim to acheive both a spatial and temporal extrapolation. Individual based processes need to be quantified, acheived through video monitoring of the interactions and image analysis (2+1 D image sequences).
