About us

Welcome to the Warwick Student Chapter of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM)Link opens in a new window and the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA)Link opens in a new window.

This Student Chapter is run and organised by a committee of PhD students all of whom are involved with applied mathematical research here at Warwick.

What we do

We aim to promote and encourage applied mathematical and computational research here at Warwick by bringing together a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate students (as well as staff!) from different academic disciplines. This facilitates the growth of the interdisciplinary research community here at Warwick and provides a platform for both students and staff to showcase the real-world and industrial applications of their research to a diverse audience.

We host the weekly Statistics, Probability, Analysis and Applied Mathematics (SPAAM) seminar seriesLink opens in a new window throughout the academic terms, which showcases some of the applied mathematics research currently being undertaken here at Warwick by PhD students. We also plan to host other events throughout the academic year such as Reprohack, problem solving days (involving industrial partners of Warwick), workshop days and an academic/industry careers event.

Upcoming Events

Applied Mathematics Postgraduate (AMP) Conference

We are hosting the AMP Conference on the 8-10 July 2024, in collaboration with the Oxford SIAM Student Chapter. Abstract submissions and registration are now open! Do visit the event websiteLink opens in a new window to find out more!

How to get involved

SIAM Student Membership

If you are interested or would like to get involved in state-of-the-art applied mathematical research, we strongly encourage you to join the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM)Link opens in a new window membership. This membership provides an excellent opportunity to connect with professional applied mathematicians!

SIAM provides free membership for members of the student chapter. Just come along to a SPAAM seminar or one of our other events, and you can indicate that you are a member of the Warwick Student Chapter when signing up for a free SIAM membership. This also helps us show SIAM that our chapter is alive and well!

Please see the SIAM Student MembershipLink opens in a new window page for a complete list of benefits and further details on how to sign up.

How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.
