Dr. Charikleia Tzanakou (PAIS, Warwick) and Professor Alison Rodger (Chemistry, Warwick and Macquarie University) are part of a 4 year Horizon 2020 Consortium Project PLOTINA (Promoting Gender Balance and Inclusion in Research, Innovation and Training) which is focused on gender equality and academic careers. PLOTINA is led by the University of Bologna while Dr. Tzanakou and Prof. Rodger are coordinating Work-Package 3 on Implementing GEPs: career- making and cultural change.


Objective

The overall objective of PLOTINA is to enable the development, implementation and assessment of self-tailored Gender Equality Plans (GEPs) with innovative and sustainable strategies for the Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) involved (actions could be introduced at departmental or university level). This objective is based on the vision to foster excellence and the social value of innovations, by: stimulating a gender-aware culture change; promoting career-development of both female and male researchers to prevent the waste of talent, particularly for women; ensuring diversification of views and methodologies in research and teaching. PLOTINA will contribute to increase the number of female researchers, promote their careers and integrate of the gender dimension into the design, evaluation and implementation of research, to enhance its quality and relevance foster excellence and the social value of innovations.

Outcomes

This project will lead to: 1) a Library of Actions and Good Practices for other European (RPOs) to adopt and use in the future, 2) a number of new Case studies of gendered research and training and 3) indicators that will enable institutions to monitor and evaluate gender actions.
